Bible reading: Philippians 4:16–17
Gabriel liked to listen to the stories the missionary told when he visited the church.
He spoke of faraway places. Of children who had never heard of Jesus. Of families who walked for hours to hear a sermon.
One Sunday, the missionary showed photos of a small church made of wood. He said that sometimes they didn't have enough Bibles, that they traveled on difficult roads, and that they often missed their families.
Gabriel thought:
—It must be very difficult to live like that…
After the service, he saw his parents put a special offering in the envelope that said “Missions”.
"Why do we give money for that?" he asked curiously.
His mother crouched down to his level.
—Because they left their comfort to take the gospel to others. We are not there… but we can support them from here.
That phrase stuck in his mind.
That week, Gabriel received some money he had saved. He planned to use it to buy something he had wanted for a long time. But he remembered the missionary talking about the need to print more Bibles.
He felt a struggle inside.
"It's my money..." "But I can also help..."
Nobody forced him.
Nobody told him how much to give.
That night, while he was thinking, he imagined something:
What if a child in another country hears for the first time that Jesus loves him… thanks to something someone gave?
Gabriel prayed:
—Lord, thank you for the missionaries who give their time, effort, and sacrifice to bring Your word to those who do not know You. Help me to value their work and to participate generously, understanding that giving is not losing, but sowing seeds for eternal life. Teach me to support Your work with love and obedience. In Jesus' name, amen.
The following Sunday, Gabriel took some of his savings and put them in the mission envelope.
He didn't give it his all.
But he found love.
While doing so, he understood something very important:
Missionaries are the feet that go… but the church is the hand that holds.
Giving to missions isn't losing money. It's sowing seeds in souls.
They sacrifice comfort, closeness to part of their family, stability… for love of people who do not yet know Christ.
And we, by supporting their needs, participate in that work.
It's like when someone holds a rope while another person goes down to rescue someone. They both work together.
The missionary goes. The church supports.
And God uses everyone.
Ask your children what lesson they learned today...
Today's lesson: Supporting missions is sowing seeds in eternal souls.
Have you thought about what a missionary leaves behind to serve God?
Would you like someone to help you if you were away preaching?
What can you do to support missionary work?
Do you give willingly or only when you're forced to?
Giving to missionaries is a way to actively participate in God's work. They leave behind security and comfort to take the message of salvation to places where many have never heard the name of Jesus. Even if we don't travel, we are part of the effort when we pray for them and support their needs. God uses our resources to accomplish His purpose. When we give with love, we demonstrate that we understand the value of souls and that the gospel is more important than our own comforts.
🎯 Today's challenge:
Pray for a missionary and set aside something, even if it's small, to support God's work.
Remember this:
When you give to missions, you are helping someone come to know Jesus.
Key verse: Philippians 4:16–17
Even in Thessalonica you sent me aid for my needs once and again. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.
It's time to pray ...
