We are blessed when we obey God's Word.

4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
Luke 5:4-5

Jesus knows what he is saying and what he is doing.

Sometimes he asks us to do something that might seem crazy!

But you know what the best part is?

If we trust and obey, everything He tells us to do will have great results, because God has already seen what will happen in the future.
A man experienced what we describe here.
Jesus told him to do something that seemed like it wouldn't work.

But guess what happened?

Find out now by reading the story!

FISHERS OF MEN

A wonderful catch of fish was made because Simon obeyed.

Biblical reference: Luke 5:1-11

One day Jesus was near the shore of the Sea of Galilee. There were many people there just to hear what he taught about God.

It was then that Jesus saw two boats nearby, belonging to local fishermen. He got into one of them and moved a little way out from the shore so he could speak more easily to the people, not being crowded among them.

But meanwhile Jesus had already noticed that these fishermen were washing their nets.

Do you know what that means? They hadn't caught a thing! What a wasted night's work!

Fishermen depend on fishing to eat, sell, and support their families, so not fishing is very bad.

When Jesus had finished speaking about God to those people, he called Simon Peter, the owner of one of the boats, and said to him:

—Go to where the water is deeper and you can cast your nets again.

Simon, still unaware of the full power of Jesus, replied:

—Master, we've been working hard all night trying to fish, but we haven't caught anything! But look, because you say that, we'll obey and cast our nets again, okay?
When Simon and the other fishermen followed Jesus' instructions and cast their nets, so many fish came in that the nets began to tear, and they had to ask for help from other fishermen nearby. Imagine what that was like!

The boats were so full of fish that they almost sank from the weight! Wow!

Seeing this, Simon Peter immediately knelt before Jesus. He and the other fishermen, whose names were James and John, realized the enormous power Jesus possessed and were speechless! And let's see how the story ends: after this miracle, Jesus called Simon Peter and the others to be his disciples.

Do you know what a disciple is? A disciple is someone who strives to learn from someone who knows more than they do. In this case, Jesus taught about the Word of God, and these three men would learn from Jesus what was in the Bible so they could teach it to others as well.

How wonderful! It's always worthwhile to listen to what Jesus says and obey him!

FISHERS OF MEN

What did you learn from the history of fishing?

We all have to strive to do our best, don't we? In this story, for example, Simon Peter and the other fishermen had already done everything they knew how to do, but nothing worked!

Jesus, who always sees the future and loves us, already knew how to solve it. So he gave a command, because he wanted to perform a miracle.

But let's think about this: if Simon hadn't listened to Jesus, would he have been able to catch so many fish?

Of course. Simon needed to trust and obey what Jesus had commanded in order to receive his blessing later.

This teaches us that we are always blessed when we obey what Jesus says, and what Jesus says is in the Word of God!

It is TIME to PRAY

Jesus, I know you've already seen my future and always have what's best for me, because you love me! That's why I always want to obey you. Even if you ask me to do something that seems a little strange, if you tell me, I'm in! Thank you for always wanting to bless me. Amen.
